Editor:
We moved to Mariposa in 1988 from Lake Sherwood in Ventura county. Previously it had been Sangri-la, but they built a golf course and 5000 square foot houses, and we decided it was time to leave.

We had property with a double-wide in Mariposa off of Cole Road, and there we went. The first thing we did was unload our refrigerator, but it didn’t fit, so we had to modify (cut down) the framework to fit. But here we were.

We had a lot of work to do, because the property hadn’t been maintained for a while. Tractor work and burn piles and road maintenance. My family loved it. The children registered at Woodland School, and we met with the teachers. They were all dedicated and cared for the students. That taken care of the next thing we did was to get the Mariposa Gazette newspaper.

This is typically where new residents can get a feel for the local values and culture. I liked the letters to the editor. It was easy for us, Loretta, my two daughters Sierra, Cheyanne and myself fit in. We started meeting folks, especially Loretta as she is very outgoing, (me brushing, clearing not so much), but we loved Mariposa. But things have changed.

Then the Mariposa Gazette changed hands and it turned into a fringe thing. I subscribed to it for a month and cancelled it because I couldn’t identify with anything that was printed.

I hope this can be printed because I think other folks feel the same as myself and my family. So, you have my vote and I hope you get back in the mainstream in the county.
