December 16 marks National Wreaths Across America Day

Saturday, Dec. 16, is National Wreaths Across America Day and once again cemeteries in Mariposa County will be part of the celebratory event.
The cemeteries that will be participating in the annual event include: Mariposa Cemetery, Masonic Lodge Cemetery, Catheys Valley Cemetery, Sarah Priest Cemetery, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
The ceremony and wreath laying will be held at the Mariposa Cemetery Pavilion at noon, just off of Highway 49 North in Mariposa on Joe Howard Street.
Prior to the ceremony, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office will lead an escort of the wreaths through the town of Mariposa to the cemetery.
The entire community is invited to join in honoring the heroes of Mariposa County. Following the opening ceremony, anyone is welcomed to place a wreath on a veteran’s grave and “say their name.”
At the Catheys Valley Cemetery the wreaths will be laid at 9 a.m.
