Grizzlies host Amador Tuesday in playoff opener

Mariposa County High School’s undefeated Southern League champion volleyball team will host Amador at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the opening round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs. The match is set for the Loyd Hobby Gymnasium on the MCHS campus.

The Grizzlies enter the postseason 27-10 overall and 14-0 in league play, having captured their third consecutive Southern League title while extending their remarkable league winning streak to 42 matches over three perfect seasons.

Mariposa dropped only three league sets this fall and finished the schedule with four consecutive sweeps, including straight-set victories over Waterford, Le Grand and Stone Ridge Christian.

The Grizzlies are ranked No. 6 in Sac-Joaquin Section Division V, No. 43 in the section overall and No. 422 in California by MaxPreps. Their balanced lineup features senior Gillian Pioske, who leads the attack with 320 kills and a .264 hitting percentage; sophomore Kylie Williams, who has added 312 kills; senior setter Emma Pioske, who has recorded 948 assists and 82 aces; junior libero Abby Beery, who has collected 397 digs; and senior middle blocker Grace Beery, who leads the team with 17 blocks. Together, those accomplishments have established Mariposa as the Southern League’s standard-bearer and positioned the veteran Grizzlies for a deep postseason run.
