Mariposa County Library launches Kanopy Streaming Service for cardholders

Mariposa County Library cardholders now have access to Kanopy, a digital video streaming service offered through OverDrive, the same company that provides the library’s Libby eBook platform. The service became available Monday, Aug. 3, and may be used on smartphones, tablets, desktop computers, smart TVs and streaming devices such as Roku.

Patrons may sign up by visiting https://www.kanopy.com/mariposacounty or by downloading the Kanopy app, then entering their library barcode and PIN. After initial access, users will be prompted to attach an email address to the account.

Each patron receives 25 tickets per month to use within Kanopy. Most titles require two to four tickets, and users can monitor their remaining balance in the upper right corner of the platform.

The collection includes a broad mix of films and programs. While Kanopy does not typically offer the newest theatrical releases, it features documentaries, independent films, series and a selection of well-known movies.

Once a video is checked out, viewers generally have 48 to 72 hours to watch it, with the exact viewing window displayed in the app.

The service is currently available to all borrower types, including temporary residents. Because Kanopy titles do not require waitlists, holds or checkout queues, films may be viewed by unlimited users at the same time.

Patrons who already use Kanopy through another library may also link their Mariposa County Library access to an existing Kanopy account, allowing multiple library cards to be managed under one profile.

Kanopy also includes Kanopy Kids, a section designed for children. Children’s programming does not use tickets, and adults may set a parental control PIN to restrict access to the main Kanopy collection.
