Mariposa Supervisors to hear health, public works and county administration items tomorrow

The Mariposa County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Mariposa County Government Center Board Chambers, 5100 Bullion Street, Mariposa.

The upcoming meeting includes routine consent business, several professional-service agreements, public health and behavioral health contracts, transportation planning matters and a handful of regular agenda items that could draw closer public attention.

On the consent agenda, supervisors are expected to act on technology services tied to Microsoft 365, legal representation for juveniles, emergency medical services support, psychiatric inpatient care and food-storage coordination with Mariposa County Unified School District. The board also will consider road striping work, solid waste consulting services and other administrative approvals typically handled without separate discussion unless a supervisor or member of the public asks for an item to be pulled.

The consent calendar also includes ceremonial items. Supervisors are set to recognize John C. Fremont Hospital for 75 years of service to the county and to proclaim September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, an action intended to call attention to prevention resources and community awareness.

The board is also scheduled to sit as the Mariposa County Local Transportation Commission. In that role, commissioners will consider a $110,000 agreement with Fehr and Peers to update the county’s short-range transit plan, a planning document used to guide local transit service, priorities and future improvements. Commissioners also will consider a resolution allocating State of Good Repair funds for fiscal year 2025-26, money generally used to maintain and improve transit equipment and facilities.

The regular agenda begins with the sheriff’s annual report, a scheduled presentation that gives supervisors a public update on the department’s activity, operations and priorities. The report is expected to serve as a broader review of public safety work, rather than a vote on a single enforcement issue.

Supervisors also are expected to discuss a proposed ban on kratom sales, a policy item likely to center on public health concerns, local enforcement and how any county restriction would be written. The discussion could determine whether staff moves forward with ordinance language or whether the board asks for changes before taking formal action.

Another regular agenda item concerns benefit allowances for supervisors, an administrative matter involving how board members receive or apply county-provided benefits. The item may require the board to clarify policy, adjust allowances or provide direction to staff on implementation.

The board also is scheduled to take up reductions in community partner contributions, a budget-related item that could affect funding for outside organizations or local service providers. The discussion is likely to focus on county spending priorities, available revenue and the potential impact on programs that rely on county support.
