Prescribed Burn Cooperative plans Mariposa community meeting

Community members interested in prescribed fire will have an opportunity Oct. 15 to learn about local projects and ways to participate during a public meeting hosted by the Yosemite Gateway Prescribed Burn Cooperative.

The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the back patio of the Grove House, 4993 Fifth St. in Mariposa. Organizers will discuss community-led prescribed burning in Mariposa and eastern Madera counties, outline upcoming burn projects and answer questions about how residents can take part in a prescribed burn.

The cooperative is a prescribed-fire education program coordinated by the University of California Cooperative Extension in Mariposa County. For more information about the meeting, contact Laura Wisdom at (209) 966-2417 or lwisdom@ucanr.edu. Additional information is available at www.YosemiteGatewayPBC.com. Community members may join the cooperative’s mailing list at https://gaggle.email/join/ygpbc@gaggle.email.

The project is funded through the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program as part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that uses Cap-and-Trade funds to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen the economy, and improve public health and the environment.
