John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation’s Black & White Ball returns Nov. 7

The John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation is inviting the community to step behind the mask this fall for its 2026 Black & White Ball, a black-and-gold masquerade fundraiser supporting rural healthcare in Mariposa County.

The annual event will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Mariposa Fairgrounds, Building A. Doors open at 4 p.m., and tickets are $100 per person.

This year’s theme, “Black & Gold Masquerade,” is expected to bring an evening of appetizers, a three-course dinner, silent and live auctions, a 50/50 raffle, music, dancing and formal black-and-gold style.

Proceeds from the evening will help the Foundation fund medical equipment, programs and other needs that support local patients, hospital staff and the community served by the John C. Fremont Healthcare District.

The Black & White Ball has long been one of Mariposa’s signature charitable events. According to the Foundation, the semiformal fundraiser has raised money for John C. Fremont Hospital for more than 30 years and is considered the organization’s largest annual fundraising event.

The event dates back to the early years of the John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation. The Foundation was founded in 1980 and received charitable status in 1981, the same year the Black & White Ball was first hosted. After a pandemic-related hiatus, the Ball returned in 2023 and has continued as a community celebration and fundraiser for the Healthcare District.

The John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that works in partnership with the John C. Fremont Healthcare District to strengthen rural healthcare through philanthropy, stewardship, education, advocacy and community partnerships. Its support has included equipment purchases, health education scholarships, staff training assistance, community health initiatives and other patient-care improvements.

The Foundation’s work builds on the history of the local Healthcare District. Mariposa voters created the hospital district in 1947, and the hospital opened in 1951 with support from federal, state and county funding. Today, the district continues to serve residents of Mariposa County, Yosemite National Park and surrounding rural communities, while also planning for future healthcare needs, including California seismic requirements for hospitals.
