Mariposa County Library

Library hosting card design contest

There are many talented artists and creators in this area, and the Mariposa County Library is hoping that many of them will be interested in participating in its library card design contest, which has officially begun and will conclude on October 30.

Library officials said they are hoping to receive many submissions, which will be judged by a panel of experts. The winning submissions will be featured on special edition cards that patrons can have.

Applications, templates, and instruction forms are available at each county library location: Mariposa, El Portal, Red Cloud, Yosemite Valley, and Wawona.

This contest is open to Mariposa County residents of all ages. Participants must have a library card. No use of artificial intelligence is allowed, and designs should celebrate the love of libraries.

Two winners will be chosen: an adult winner and a youth winner. The winning designs will be printed on Mariposa County Library cards.

Participants are encouraged to use colored pencils, markers, or paint. They should submit their artwork on the paper template application that the library provides. All submitted designs that meet the required criteria will be displayed at the Mariposa Library throughout December.

“We know there are a lot of creative folks in our community, and we would love them to participate in this fun event,” said Johnson. “We offered a similar contest three years ago and received some outstanding pieces of art that were then made into library cards.”

Participants should return their submissions to any Mariposa County Library branch. The entries will then be judged, and winners will be announced in November, to coincide with the library’s 100th anniversary.

“It is really neat to see the winning art submissions be featured on new library cards,” Johnson added.
