Improvement slated at Mariposa Park playground

Mariposa County Public Works is scheduled to begin installing new shade structures at the Mariposa Park playground on Monday, July 27, with work expected to take approximately seven days, barring delays. During construction, the playground and the entire upper park area will be temporarily closed for public safety.

The project includes the installation of two shade structures over the playground area, excluding the swings. County officials said the improvements are intended to make the playground more comfortable and accessible for families throughout the year, particularly during the summer months when local temperatures often reach the upper 90s and may exceed 100 degrees.

The playground is among the most heavily used amenities maintained by Mariposa County Parks & Recreation, and county officials said community feedback about the need for additional shade helped prioritize the project. Day Camp activities will temporarily move to the lower pavilion area while the upper park area is closed.

Funding for the project comes from the Mariposa County Public Works Department, the Mariposa County Probation Department, and the Health & Human Services Agency. County officials said support from Probation and HHSA helped make the installation possible.

Parks & Recreation Manager Lexie Verdugo described the shade structures as “a meaningful improvement for our community,” saying they will enhance one of the county’s most popular park amenities and improve year-round access for families.
