Mariposa County eyes State Climate Grant

Mariposa County is preparing to seek state funding through California’s Transformative Climate Communities program, a competitive grant initiative that supports community-led climate, infrastructure and economic development projects in areas facing pollution, disinvestment and climate-related risks.

The county’s prospective proposal could include funding for middle-income housing units at Missouri Gulch, along with projects tied to transit, pedestrian safety, workforce development and other community priorities. County officials are asking residents to help shape the application before it is submitted.

Administered by the California Strategic Growth Council and implemented by the California Department of Conservation, the Transformative Climate Communities program funds neighborhood-scale projects designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions, improve public health, expand economic opportunity and deliver environmental benefits. Since 2018, the state has awarded more than $424 million through the program to 37 disadvantaged communities.

The current Round 6 application period opened after the state released its Notice of Funding Availability on May 29, 2026. Final applications for Planning, Project Development and Implementation grants are due Sept. 30, 2026. Implementation grants require coordinated, neighborhood-level projects, while Planning and Project Development grants can support community engagement, climate planning, feasibility studies, permitting and other pre-development work.
